NEUROTOXINS
These belong to a group injectable neuromodulators that are used to prevent the appearance of dynamic wrinkles (wrinkles only seen with movement.) Neuromodulators work by blocking nerve impulses that cause muscle contraction.
Where are Neuromodulators Commonly Injected?
Common Areas Include:
-
Forehead: Prevents horizontal lines present when looking up
-
Glabella (11's): Located between the brows, helps to prevent "furrow lines"
-
Crow's feet: Prevents "smile lines" or the small lines on the outside of the eyes present when squinting
-
Brow Lift: Helps raise the tail of the brow creating a more refreshed, awake appearance
-
Massetters: Prevents tension headaches, alleviate tension in the jaw, TMJ pain, jaw clenching, teeth grinding and also helps slim the lower 1/3 of the face creating a more V-line shape
-
Axillary (Underarm) Area: Prevents hyperhydrosis or excessive sweating
-
Trapezius: Also called Barbie Tox, which helps to slim the trapezius muscle, used in shoulder shrug; therefore elongating the neck
What Type of Wrinkles Do Neuromodulators Target?
Neuromodulators target wrinkles and fine lines associated with movement, called dynamic wrinkles such as raising the forehead or furrowing the brows. Neuromodulators do not work on wrinkles associated with gravity or static wrinkles which are present at rest, and have been present for some time. Therefore, starting botox for preventative measures helps prevnet these static wrinkles from forming.
